“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” –Alexander Graham Bell
Here are a few highlights of my work in product development, product design, content management, and video production throughout my tenures at the award-winning children’s brand Little Passports and Cengage Learning, one of the largest higher education companies in the world.
Little Passports
Science Expeditions Subscription
Science Expeditions is a monthly subscription for children (ages 9+) sent to their mailbox. Each month’s kit is filled with hands-on science experiments, instructions, a comic book featuring Little Passports’ characters, and stickers. I’ve worked on content development and product design for most products in the 24 kits from end to end. For writing samples, go here.
Experiment Tutorial Videos for Science Expeditions
Accompanying the science kits each month is a unique landing page that offers bonus content and a how-to video to complete the main experiment in the science. I’ve scripted, produced, and hand modeled and directed talent for over a dozen videos. Watch how to build a camera obscura or a model skeleton above. Check out more videos like how to create a “bagpipe,” build a solar car, or make marble paper.
Early Explorers Subscription
Early Explorers is a monthly subscription for children (ages 3-5) featuring Little Passports’ characters, Max, Mia, and Toby. Together, they travel the world and send subscribers letters, activities, souvenirs, postcards, trading cards, and stickers related to a cultural theme. And, of course, a map! I’ve worked on content development and product design on many products in the line’s 24 packages from end to end. For writing samples, go here.
World Edition Subscription
World Edition is the flagship monthly subscription for children (ages 5-10) featuring Little Passports’ characters, Sam and Sofia. Together, they travel the world on their magic scooter and send subscribers letters, activities, souvenirs, postcards, and stickers. Plus, a world map to chart their travels. I’ve worked on content development and product design on many products in the line’s 36 packages from ideation to print. For writing samples, go here.
Product Design
For both World Edition and Early Explorers subscription, I’ve had the opportunity to design souvenirs for the packages. For our Greece package, I designed a felt laurel wreath kit (pictured left), and for our Weather package, a felt weather chart (pictured right).
Cengage Learning
Counseling & Psychology Textbooks
At Cengage, I worked on dozens of titles as a content developer for the print product (the textbook) or the media that accompanies the textbook (i.e., learning management systems, video management, instructor supplements, and quizzing). Alongside authors, product management, and production, I helped deliver the titles in this gallery to our customer base. Take a look!
Investigate Development for MindTap
I helped research, perform focus groups, manage content and external development teams for a digital product called Investigate Development. Investigate Development provides interactive case studies for psychology students studying human development. The tool asks students to analyze evidence, answer questions, and draw conclusions based on what they’ve seen and read in the case. Flip through the gallery to see some of the case studies or watch highlight reel.
What’s MindTap? MindTap is a customizable, cloud-based system that provides students and instructors a suite of products and services for their courses. It includes ebooks, testing capabilities, homework tracking, note-taking apps, and much more to help students stay engaged and instructors stay organized.
Helper Studio for MindTap
I helped research and perform focus groups for an interactive, digital prototype called Helper Studio. Helper Studio assists students in developing necessary helping skills through interactive video simulations. The practice scenarios in Helper Studio give students the opportunity to explore a variety of techniques and styles and better develop their personal preferences as helpers. Watch a video of the final product and check out the gallery to see the initial prototype I worked on.
